3 reasons why Taking a Séjour is the next big thing
At Séjour Travels, we define a séjour as a 2-3 month stay abroad. I happen to think that séjours are the next big thing (you heard it here first!) and here’s why:
1. Families are searching for an adventure
We forty-somethings have pursued our passions, tried to find “meaningful” careers, gotten married and had kids. In that order. Now it seems like every third person in my life is writing a book, running a marathon or starting a new business. We’re not ready to coast to retirement. We’re looking for a way to stay engaged in the world. We’re looking for the next big adventure.
2. Baby boomers are independent and active
Not only are today’s retirees healthy and active, they are also expected to live longer than any previous generation. And for many, that means a retirement filled with adventure and travel. Some are even interested in retiring abroad, or at lease exploring their options.
3. Taking a séjour is an achievable dream
For many of us, living abroad is starting to feel like an elusive dream. Something that we’ve always wanted to do, but can’t seem to make happen. The economy isn’t great, and corporate relocation packages are hard to come by. On top of that, selling your house right now might be a nightmare. A semi-permanent relocation just might not be possible right now.
Enter: the séjour – a 2-3 month stay abroad. A séjour allows you to settle into a community, immerse yourself in the culture and live like a local. It’s certainly not without its difficulties, and we’ll dive into those issues over the next few days. But – it’s an achievable dream.
So this week’s blog series will be Séjours 101 – Inspiration and FAQ. By Friday, I hope you’ll be inspired to start planning your own séjour!
