Finding your home in France

If you are looking to immerse yourself in French culture, spend some time thinking about how best to do that.  It might be easy to live like a tourist in a big city, but it could be harder to “immerse” yourself in French culture. On the other hand, the slower pace of life in a small village might enable you to get to know a few of the locals. Here are some issues to consider:

Living in a city

  • Lots to do
  • May not need a car
  • Greater access to expat community
  • Could be harder to meet locals and develop friendships
  • Easy to live like a tourist, could be harder to “immerse” yourself in French culture.

Living in a village
  • Can become part of the community
  • Get to know the locals
  • Walk around town
  • Must drive / take bus to other cities/attractions
  • You could be the only foreigner

Living in a rural setting

  • Beautiful, peaceful
  • Could feel isolating
  • Need to drive most places
