Skype – free. When you are on Wi-Fi, skype-to-skype calls are free and skype-to-US-phones are 1.2-2.3 cents per minute depending on your plan.
Postagram – free. Send personalized postcards using the photos you’ve taken on your trip. Must be on Wi-Fi or roaming to purchase and send postcards (postcards are 99 cents each).
Ultralingua French-English Dictionary – $20. I’m sure there are free versions out there. But Ultralingua has a ton of cool features and I use this app all the time. Best of all – it works when you are offline and in airplane mode.
Google translate – free. Not even close to perfect, but it’s good in a pinch. And it’s free! (Must be on Wi-Fi or roaming to use.)
